Music has been at the heart of worship at St John the Divine for very many years. For the last forty years the music had been led by an adult choir alone. However, since the beginning of 2013, we have developed a boys’ choir and a girls’ choir. The adult choir still sings the majority of services, and the boys and girls sing as separate choirs once each in a month.
Repertoire covers a wide range of composers and musical styles, including mass settings and anthems by Renaissance composers from England, Italy and Spain. Classic English choral composers such as Howells, Vaughan Williams, Stanford, Byrd and Tallis, and the French composers Duruflé, Fauré and Vierne appear frequently on our music lists.
