St. John the Divine church is hired regularly by professional musicians and groups, including Exaudi, Sansara, Londinium, Stile Antico, Opus Anglicanum, the Lambeth Orchestra, the Brighton Early Music Festival and several high-profile vocalists & pianists. The acoustic in the nave of St. John the Divine is exceptional for rehearsal, recordings, and concerts. Our space is equipped with a PA system, organ, harpsichord, and Steinway grand piano.

Church Hire Rates

Rehearsal/Recording Rates:

Under 20 musicians: £50/hr (minimum booking of 1.5 hours)

Over 20 musicians: £80/hr (minimum booking of 1.5 hours)

Concert/Event Rates:

Rehearsal & Concert (5 hours on the same day): £500

Additional hours can be added onto booking at an hourly rate of £80/hr. 

Combined booking of both the church & hall for the day (1-11pm): £850

 Please read before you book:

*Mass is celebrated in the church every weekday from 12-1pm (apart from Thursdays, which is 10-11am). The church is unavailable for hire Sundays before 2pm because of Sunday mass & fellowship (visitors are always welcome to join us for worship). No bookings will be accepted which conflict with scheduled mass times.

**Due to the increase in gas prices, the vaulted ceilings which create our gorgeous acoustics, and the age of our boiler, it costs us £200/day to heat the church in the winter time. We do not heat the church on weekdays during the winter. If you would like to pay extra to heat the church for your event, we can discuss this as part of the booking process.

***If you cancel your booking within a week of your rehearsal or event, you will be invoiced for 50% of the originally agreed hiring fee. If you cancel your booking within 24 hours of the event or rehearsal booked, you will be expected to pay 100% of the originally agreed hiring fee.
